Mensore! Welcome to our dojo website.
We are Canberra's only full-time martial arts centre dedicated to the practice and preservation of traditional Okinawan Karate-do and Kobudo. We are also a registered non-profit organisation.
Our dojo has classes for children, teens/adults and families and caters for both complete beginners and those with experience. To find out more about classes, you can visit our class info page.
We teach traditional Okinawan Matsubayashi-ryu (Shorin-ryu) Karate-do and Kobudo as founded by Osensei Shoshin Nagamine, Hanshi 10th Dan.
All classes are taught by internationally qualified instructors and have small classes sizes, aiming to provide you with the highest level of quality instruction of martial arts and Karate-do to Canberra and surrounding area. While Karate is an effective and practical form self defence, we do not consider it to just be the physical act of punching and kicking, but an avenue to help you develop a wide range of skill sets. Our two key goals are to assist you in improving your:
- Mind, through mental robustness, confidence / character development and discipline.
- Body, through physical conditioning, reflex / co-ordination development and practical self-defence skills.
The Cummings Karate Dojo is the Canberra branch of the Matsubayashi-ryu Karate Association of Australia (MKAA), as well as a direct member of the World Matsubayashi-ryu (Shorin-ryu) Karate-do Association (WMKA), Okinawa, Japan. Our head instructor, Kancho Reece, and the dojo is under the direct guidance of the WMKA Okinawan Headquarters.
